Dragon's Roar-September!

Welcome Back!

It’s been great to see the children return to school so full of energy and looking so smart. We hope they’ve enjoyed the return to school and would urge you to pop into school if you have any questions at all about their new classes and the new school year.

Attendance

Research show that attendance above 95% will dramatically improve your child’s chances of achieving his / her potential at school and securing the qualifications that will lead to greatly enhanced opportunities in employment and further education.

We will be contacting all parents regularly this year to keep you up to date about your child’s attendance. Please pop in if you’d like to talk about this.  Please note that a child that is absent for more than 1 day every six weeks would fall below the 95% threshold.

Please also bear in mind that Nottinghamshire County Council issues fines when a child is absent from school without good reason. Fines were issued to parents at Keyworth Primary in the last academic year. This is the criteria for issuing fines:

if your child is absent from school without agreement from the headteacher for more than 3 days during a 6 week period then a fine could be issued to you. It doesn’t matter whether the unauthorised absence is because of a family holiday or simply because your child was absent from school without good reason that has been accepted by the school.

Swimming

Swimming for Year 3 children will start next Thursday. Please ensure that the children have appropriate kit:

  • One-piece swimming suit or trunks (not shorts) and a towel – all in a suitable bag.
  • Long hair must be tied back, and no earrings can be worn so please ensure your son/daughter is able to take these out him/herself.
  • If you would like your child to wear goggles, then you need to provide a signed note giving your permission.

We would really appreciate some parental support with walking the children to and from the swimming pool. We currently have two members of staff supporting and require at least one other person. Please speak with Miss Fowell or a member of the SLT if you can help. Thank you.

Lego!

Miss Waugh is planning to run a Lego club during a lunchtime and so has asked that if any families no longer need their Lego then she would be delighted to use it at school! Please pass on any to her that you can spare. Thank you.

Message from The Office

Please ensure that all overdue payments are paid ASAP; there are a number overdue from last term. Please speak to Mrs Buttery if you have any difficulties making these payments. Also, keep your eyes peeled for the data forms that will be in book bags soon. It’s really important that we have up to date contact details for parents so, in the meantime, please let us know if you have a new phone number/email address. Thanks
