February 2021

  • DRAGON'S ROAR NEWSLETTER 12/02/21

    Published 12/02/21

Well what a half term that has been! Not quite how we all hoped or wanted to start 2021 but we’ve made it to half term and the commitment and resilience from our children and families has been amazing! The lighter nights are creeping in and hidden under the snow, are the smallest signs that spring is on its way- something to look forward to.

Have a marvellous and restful half term and we will see you either remotely or in person on Tuesday 23rd of February.

    INSET Day

Monday 22nd of February is a pre-organised INSET Day. School will be closed to ALL pupils that day and there will be no home learning set. A last chance for a PJ day before learning starts again on Tuesday 23rd of February!

COVID-19 DURING THE HALF TERM BREAK?

Over the first few days of the holiday, schools have been asked to help coordinate Public Health England’s response to any positive cases of Covid-19 amongst school age children.

If your child has a confirmed case of covid-19:

    • before or on the 18thth February, please use this link to let us know: CLICK HERE . We will then contact members of staff and other children who might need to self-isolate.
    • after the 18th February, please follow NHS advice and let us know on the first day back, the 23rd February, that your child is self-isolating following a positive test result.

NHS advice can be found here: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/

    Year 6 Leavers’ Hoodies:

If you have a child in Year 6 and would like them to have a KPNS Leavers’ hoodie, please order one on Eduspot School Money in the shop area. You will need to select the size you wish to order. All orders must be in by Friday 5th of March. We CANNOT accept any late orders as they get printed in bulk. Please call Mrs Buttery if you have any questions.

    Wider re-opening of school?

We know that the government might soon outline steps about a wider reopening of school after March 8th. At the moment, this is a provisional date which is being reviewed – it could be moved back if the government feel infection rates remain too high.

As soon as we receive clear government guidance, we will be in touch asap to let you know our plans.

Lovely things to do during half term…

Mrs Holmes has put together a list of lovely things you can do whilst on half term. It is attached below. Enjoy!

    Teacher recruitment at KPNS

Some eagle-eyed parents have asked us about a job advert they have spotted for KPNS. The advert is to recruit a permanent teacher to the team; the current temporary post is currently held by Mrs Hill who was appointed on a temporary basis due to covid-19.

We have had lots of interest in the position including Mrs Hill who is keen to extend her time at KPNS – we will update you with the outcome of the recruitment process later this term

    NCC information on social distancing

The school received information from the LA in regards to concerns over social distancing and we would like to draw your attention to this with the summary message below

‘There have been increasing reports of children being seen to be mixing outside in the community in local parks and shopping areas as well as visiting other households. The government has made it clear that households should not be mixing during this period, except under certain conditions, including the forming of ‘childcare bubbles’ which should only be with one other household.

School staff are understandably worried about the impact of such actions on their own health and safety, as well as the safety of the children within school bubbles. In the absence of any specific guidance on this topic from the government, I would emphasise the importance of parents’ role in keeping children, and the adults who support them, safe during the pandemic.

Please adhere to the  current national restrictions and that any breaches by children attending the school will be viewed as jeopardising the health and wellbeing of the school bubble and relevant staff and as such will place them at risk of losing their keyworker/vulnerable child place in school.’

  • SAFER INTERNET DAY

    Published 08/02/21

    Dear Parents,

At a time when most children are using the Internet more than they would normally, I would urge you all to take time tor review the information below. There is quite a lot of information, but it is all useful and I believe every parent needs to understand the issues raised. We are aware that  some of our pupils have had very negative experiences using the Internet at home in recent years - reading and using the information attached will hopefully minimise the chances of this happening in the future.

Please let us know if you have any questions or if we can help in any way.

    Mr Cresswell

The Safer Internet Day website also has some fantastic virtual assemblies, similar to what we would be discussing in school this week if you were all in!

  • FULL OPENING OF SCHOOL, 8TH MARCH 2021

    Published 05/02/21

A few reminders ahead of school opening to all pupils from the 8th March:

    • All pupils should return to school on the 8th March – school attendance for all pupils from F2-Year 6 is once again mandatory.
    • Please see our blog here with some simple activities you can do to help prepare your child for returning to school, so they are ready and happy to face the first day back after lockdown.
    • The start and end times to the day from 8th March will be:
      • Nursery am: 9am – 11.55am
      • Nursery after lunch collection: 1:00pm
      • Nursery pm: 1.00pm – 3.30pm
      • Reception: 9:00am – 3:30pm
      • Year 1 and Year 2/3: 8.50am – 3.30pm
      • Lower Key Stage 2 (Y4): 8.55am – 3.30pm
      • Upper Key Stage 2 (Y5/6): 8.50am – 3.30pm

    Drop off and collection points:

Y5 and Y6 children- We will be asking parents of children in Year 5 and 6 to drop their children at the school gate and let them walk into school independently in order to reduce the number of adults on the school site in the morning. Please ask your child to go straight into school and not mingle on the playground.  When collecting, parents can either arrange to meet their child at the gate or they can wait socially distanced on the back playground.

Y4 children will be dropped off and collected on the front playground as usual.

Y2/3 children will be dropped off at their classroom door but we politely ask parents not to congregate there as it is a difficult space to socially distance.  When collecting, please wait on the back playground and Miss Fowell will bring the children out to you at the 3:30PM.

Y1 children to be dropped off and collected from their classroom door. Please can we ask that parents keep their children stood with them whilst they are waiting - the children should not be running around.

EYFS- will be dropped off and collected at their usual entrances, again asking for the children to stand with parents.

ALL CHILDREN WILL NOW HAND SANITISE AT THEIR CLASSROOM DOORS RATHER THAN AT THE BAND STAND.

    • When coming onto the school site, please also ensure you wear a face covering and that only one parent or carer comes onto the school site to accompany their children.
    • Please be mindful of social distancing with teachers and avoid congregating on the playground. You can send any questions to your child’s teacher using the class email system.
    • Please remind your children about the Rainbow Rules and ensure they know how important it is that they are followed by all children. Click here for the Rainbow Rules

Although we all hope that we are moving back to some sense of normality and that schools will not have to close again as part of a national lockdown, we still have the potential for bubbles to be closed if we see positive cases of covid-19 amongst pupils and staff. If all parents follow the guidance above, the chances of a bubble closure at KPNS will be greatly reduced. Many thanks for your ongoing support with our covid-19 measures.

    What will they need:

    • School uniform
    • PE Kits
    • Home/ School Diaries and book bags.
    • Packed lunches if they have them.
    • Water bottle for all children.
    • No other items should be coming into school.

Parents should not see any significant changes from the 8th March when compared to the autumn term – routines and expectations will be almost identical. However, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions. We will send further information next week.

Mrs Boon will not be in school on the 8th March and for a few weeks after, although we hope to see her back in school in the not too distant future.

We are greatly looking forward to welcoming all pupils back to their school – it’s where they belong!
