Hello!

Welcome back to the Autumn term and welcome to Year 2!

We are so looking forward to welcoming you all back to school tomorrow and can’t wait to hear all about your summer holidays!

We are holding a meeting on Thursday 11th September at 3pm, for all parents to come along and find out about what their child will be learning about in Year 2, the expectations for this year and ask any questions you may have.

Below, you’ll find our Geography and Science Knowledge Organisers, which outline the key learning for this half-term.

What are the school homework expectations?

  • Reading: Please ensure your child is reading at least 3 times a week at home and that their home-school reading books are signed each week. You’re also welcome to attend Reading Lair to complete this together!
  • DoodleMaths and DoodleSpell: Children should aim to stay in their Green Zone, which means completing approximately 40 minutes of practice each week.
  • Bronze Reading Challenge: Encourage your child to work toward their bronze reading challenge by ticking off each time you read.
  • Class Blog: Check the class blog regularly to keep up with everything we’re doing in school!

Who will be teaching my child and when?

On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Miss Rayns will teach Year 2.

On Thursday and Friday, Mrs Rowe will teach Year 2.

We do not have a teaching assistant this year, but the children will still work with Mrs Wales for PE and some support interventions.

What will my child be learning about this half-term?

We have created a document below outlining all the key learning for the half term, which is attached below.

This also includes a knowledge organiser for our Geography unit about Tanzania, and Science knowledge organiser all about plants!

When are the PE days this half term?

PE sessions will be with Mrs Wales on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. It is important their kits are labelled and brought in so your child can take part in these activities.

Our Class Text for this half-term will be:

This half-term, we will be reading a few different books, including: The Worrysaurus by Rachel Bright, as well as Coming to England by Floella Benjamin and All Are Welcome Here by Alexandra Penfold.
