Hello!
Welcome back to the Autumn term and welcome to Year 3! It’s always so exciting to start the new school year with new, eager children who are ready to learn and take on a new academic year! I thought I’d create a blog based on expectations, PE/swimming days and our curriculum coverage this half-term.
Below, you’ll find our Geography and Science Knowledge Organisers, which outline the key learning for this half-term. Additionally, you’ll see the spelling units we’ll be covering in class.
What are the school homework expectations?
- Reading: Please ensure your child is reading at least 3 times a week at home and that their home-school reading books are signed each week. You’re also welcome to attend Reading Lair to complete this together!
- DoodleMaths and DoodleSpell: Children should aim to stay in their Green Zone, which means completing approximately 40 minutes of practice each week. Spelling units can be found below.
- Bronze Reading Challenge: Encourage your child to work toward their Bronze Reading Challenges, which are located at the back of their home-school book.
- Class Blog: Check the class blog regularly to keep up with everything we’re doing in school!
What will my child be learning about this half-term?
I have managed to create a document at the bottom of this blog to highlight the main areas we will be covering this half term!
This also includes a knowledge organiser for our Geography unit ‘Extreme Earth’, a Science knowledge organiser for ‘animals including humans’ and a knowledge organiser for our French unit.
Spellings
Spelling units covered this half-term can be found below, as well as orange words (these are statutory spellings for Year 3/4).
When are the PE and swimming days this half term?
– Year 3’s take part in swimming in the Autumn term every Thursday afternoon. Click here for more information
PE sessions are with Mrs Wales on a Monday afternoon. It is important their kits are labelled and brought in so your child can take part in these activities.
Our Class Text for this half-term will be:
This half-term, we’re looking forward to exploring the clever and mischievous world of Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl. The children are welcome to bring their own copies to school and read along with us – it’s a fantastic way to build their love of reading!
Our text for next half term will be:
Are you able to spare some time to support y3?
We are looking for adults that would kindly be able to support us on a Thursday afternoon for swimming. This includes walking the children to Keyworth pool with other adults and walking the children back to school. If you think you can support with this, please let me know/contact the office.
We are also hoping to visit the Keyworth Library. This is a lovely opportunity to walk the children to the library, spend some time in the library with your child ( share a story together) and walk the children back to school. We are hoping to do this on 18th September. Again, if you think you are able to support with this, please let us know.

Monday 1st September- INSET DAY, school closed to pupils.
